Walter Helwich has been in the IT Industry since 2008. He started his career as a Data Entry Clerk for a firm specializing in Business Solutions. After six months, he transferred to a Technology firm that provided Computer Systems Consulting and Implementation. He worked for this company for two years. When he was 28, he started his own Security Audit and Computer Consulting firm. While in the security audit and computer consulting field, Helwich was able to develop software for government and private sector clients. While working for himself, Helwich was able to bring in government clients such as the U.S. Department of the Interior and the U.S. Forest Service. He was also able to bring in private-sector clients such as firms that manufacture and distribute packaging materials.
Walter Helwich's first software project
In 2009, Walter Helwich joined a government-sponsored project aimed at developing a mobile app for use of civil employees. The idea was to provide a digital version of paper forms, which employees could complete on their mobile phones. The app would assist in tracking and managing the workflow of civil service employees. The team also worked on a project to develop an interactive map aimed at showing the location of all federal agencies in the country. The interactive map contained information about the location including address, phone number, and hours of operation. As a part of this collaborative and research-oriented project, Walter Helwich learned how to design, implement, debug and troubleshoot web technologies. He also learned how to design and develop database applications. His primary focus was on the design and development of an interactive map.
Walter Helwich's second software project
Shortly after finishing the project for the government and the app development for civil servants, Walter Helwich joined a firm as a software engineer. His firm worked with the U.S. Department of the Interior to develop software for their geological survey. The geological survey was responsible for collecting geological data of the country. It was the responsibility of the geological survey to develop maps that indicate the location of the geological formations in the country. For this project, Walter Helwich worked with his firm to develop a web map application aimed at displaying the geographical locations of geological formations. The data that was collected by the geological survey, was fed into the app with the help of Key-Value pairs. The data was then transformed into an interactive map.
